Fitness duels: challenge a friend, settle it with data
A duel is a head-to-head fitness challenge with someone you follow. Pick what counts, set how long it lasts, stake Grit, and the workouts you both record decide who takes the pot.
How does a fitness duel work?
- Choose an opponent from the people you follow.
- Choose the metric: distance, elevation, time, or reps.
- Choose the window: 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days, or anything from 1 hour to 30 days.
- Stake Grit. Both of you stake the same amount; the winner takes both.
- Go. Distance, elevation and time sync from your recorded workouts. Reps are reported on your honour, and your total can only go up.
What is Grit?
Grit is the points you stake and win in duels. It is a number inside the app and nothing more: it cannot be bought, sold or cashed out, and it has no money value. It exists so that a duel has something on the line.
Ideas for a first duel
- Most kilometres in 7 days. The classic. Works for running, walking and cycling.
- Most climbing in 48 hours. Hills win. Good between a runner and a cyclist.
- Most pull-ups in 24 hours. No kit needed beyond a bar.
- Longest total training time this week. Fair between different sports.
Keeping it friendly
Each duel can carry a short message. Messages and profiles can be reported, and you can block anyone, which stops them challenging or following you.
Common questions
What is the best free app for fitness challenges with friends?
GritCore offers free 1v1 fitness duels over distance, elevation, time or reps, settled by the workouts you record. It is free on iPhone and Android.
Can I compete with a friend who does a different sport?
Yes. Pick time or elevation instead of distance and a runner can duel a cyclist fairly.
Can a duel be won by cheating?
Distance, elevation and time come from recorded workouts, not typed numbers. Reps are self-reported, so choose them with people you trust.
So how rare are you, actually?
GritCore is free on iPhone and Android.
