How many people can do 100 pull-ups?

Far fewer than can run a marathon, but nobody has counted. No large, representative study has measured pull-ups across the population. What is known: many adults cannot do a single strict pull-up, while the 24-hour world records stand at 10,001 (men) and 7,079 (women).

  • No censusno representative study exists
  • 10,001men's 24-hour record (Guinness, 2025)
  • 7,079women's 24-hour record (Guinness, 2025)

What percentage of people can do one pull-up?

Published figures range from about 10% to 30% of adults, with far lower shares among women, but they come from gym surveys, school fitness tests and military intake data rather than a representative sample. The honest answer is: a minority of adults can do one strict pull-up from a dead hang, and the exact share is not known.

100 in a row, or 100 in a day?

100 in a row is elite. Very few people will ever do it.

100 in a day is a volume challenge: sets spread across 24 hours. With consistent training it is reachable for someone who can already do ten or more strict pull-ups, which is itself a small group. It is GritCore's 100 Pull-ups in a Day challenge.

How to train toward 100 in a day

  • Get to 5, then 10 strict reps with full range, from a dead hang to chin over the bar.
  • Practise volume: many sets well short of failure, spread through the day.
  • Build grip with dead hangs. The Three-Minute Dead Hang is its own challenge.
  • Rest between hard days and stop if anything hurts. None of this is medical advice.
